ADHD Hyperfocus Day Five!

Day Five – How Is It Going?  Today, I don’t…

Day Five – How Is It Going?

Today, I don’t have anything scripted, prepared or ready. I am just giving a check in of how it has been the last four days doing “A Minute in the Clouds With Greg”

This is my day five check in!

This is the fifth day of this series, and I am speaking without a script or preparation.

  • On Day 4 (yesterday), I discussed the positive aspects of ADHD.
  • On Day 3, I talked about famous people with ADHD.
  • On Day 2, I talked about what ADHD is.
  • On Day 1, I gave an introduction to the series.

I’m going off script today. I don’t have anything prepared, but I wanted to talk about hyperfocus.

ADHD Hyperfocus

I’ve been experiencing extreme hyperfocus for the past four or five days, and it hasn’t always been a good thing. I’ve been so happy to finally be doing something and creating again, but I’ve found myself starting something at 9 am and then getting completely sidetracked by something else, like changing the title of my article. Before I know it, it is 11 pm and I haven’t eaten, been to the bathroom, or accomplished anything else.

I think maybe if I worded the article title differently, it might be better. Then I find myself wondering what the score would be like if I scored it. Then I think, maybe I should use this word in it. And before I know it, hours have passed and I’ve been working from nine AM until 11:30 at night on something that was supposed to be Greg’s minute in the cloud. The key word being “minute”!

Greg’s 22 Minutes

Yesterday ended up being Greg’s 22 minutes, 24 minutes, or whatever it was. So the hyperfocus has been out of control. Those squirrels (the little bar stools!) have been all over the place. So this is unscripted. It’s just a check-in. I’m going to do better. I’m going to try to focus on some quality content, condense it into a couple of minutes as I set out to do initially. So this is just a check-in.

That Hyperfocus Can Be a Real Problem

That hyperfocus can be a real problem. You forget to eat, you don’t go to the bathroom, you’re holding your legs crossed because you need to pee and all that craziness. Hyperfocus can be good, but it can go wrong. It can go all wrong. Forgetting to eat and get up and stuff like that is not good.

The Pros & Cons of Hyperfocusing with ADHD

Live Q&A Session with ADHD expert Saline discusses the pros and cons of hyperfocus, the ADHD symptom that refers to an intense fixation on an interest or activity for an extended period of time.

Facts About ADHD Hyperfocus

Hyper focus is a phenomenon in which a person becomes completely absorbed in a task, ignoring everything else around them. It is like being in a dream, making it hard to extricate oneself from the task at hand, even when others try to get their attention. It is often experienced during engaging and enjoyable activities, such as video games or creative pursuits.

Higher Functioning Autism and ADHD

Hyper focus is most commonly associated with higher functioning autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), conditions related to attention issues. The intense concentration during hyper focus can cause individuals to lose track of time and neglect important responsibilities.

Some concerns about hyper focus include forgetting to eat, sleep, or take breaks, neglecting essential tasks, and difficulty transitioning to other activities afterward.

Positive Aspects of Hyper Focus

  • Attaining unique ideas and solutions to problems.
  • Increased productivity and task completion.
  • A sense of emotional re-energization after hyper focus.
  • Deep engagement and enjoyment in activities.

Concerns With Hyper Focus

  • Neglecting self-care, like eating, drinking, and sleeping.
  • Difficulty shifting focus to important tasks.
  • Potential safety risks, especially with children on the internet.
  • Engaging in unproductive activities and neglecting responsibilities.

If this resonates with you, please leave a comment. It would be greatly appreciated. It’s not easy to create when you have ADHD, a brain injury, and other challenges, but I’m making progress and improving. Hopefully, these videos will also improve.

Thank you. Love you all.
